My February article on the Fire Star Press blog explains the origin, meaning, and usage of the word Bildungsroman (pronounced: bill-doongz-roh-man).
Bildungsroman is a literary device made up of two German words: Bildung, which means ‘education’, and Roman, which means ‘novel’.
Hence, bildungsroman is a story that addresses the growing up and maturing years (formative years) of the main character. This genre has come to be known as a coming-of-age story.
Read the entire article HERE, which includes examples of books and movies with a bildungsroman theme.
Until next time,
