Classic Songs Sunday highlights songs with similar themes. To acknowledge Daylight Savings Time, here are two time-themed songs: Time in a Bottle and If I Could Turn Back Time.
Jim Croce’s Time in a Bottle is from his 1972 album Don’t Mess Around with Jim. He wrote the song for his wife the night she told him she was pregnant (1970). The song reached #1 three months after Croce died in a plane crash on September 30, 1973.
Cher’s song, If I Could Turn Back Time (released in July 1989 and certified gold) was written by Diane Warren (Because You Loved Me, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, How Do I Live any many more). If I Could Turn Back Time music video was filmed aboard the USS Missouri to a great deal of controversy. Read about it HERE and HERE
Time connects these two songs. Croce’s song is a love ballad of wishing he could stop time and stay in this perfect moment with the woman he loves. Cher’s song is a wish to make the clock run backwards so she could right the wrongs that caused the relationship to fall apart.
