Kaye’s Cinnamon and Sugar Pie Crust Sticks
– fun and easy kitchen activity for young bakers –

My mom (b. 1933) discovered this recipe on the can of Royal Satin shortening when she was a young teenager. She’s altered the recipe over the years to suit her. She tells me she’s never used any other pie crust recipe. (Her pies are scrumptious.) For the pictures, I sprinkled one batch with sugar and then cinnamon (the dark tops), and the other batch I sprinkled with premixed cinnamon and sugar (the light tops).

This is the first baking I remember doing with my mom. I was five or so. She’d cut off the extra crust that draped over the pie pan and give those pieces to me. I’d roll those pieces into a ball, roll them out with my kid-sized rolling pin, and make pie crust sticks.

Until next time,
