#Bloganuary Jan 14 – Preferred mode of travel #wordpress

#bloganuary 2023

I have traveled via the major modes of transportation of automobile, airplane, train, and commercial bus. My preference is to travel by automobile.

Taking a bus or a train isn’t an efficient way to travel, although I’ll choose train over bus every time. There are to many stops and delays and circuitous routes from departure to destination with bus and train travel.

Flying is time efficient, but there are lines to wait in and A LOT of people to interact with and both occur under time constraints and the entire experience is completely distasteful for me.

I will trade the time it takes to get to where I’m going in a car over the shortened time it takes to get there by airplane. In my car, I’m in control and there is a significant lack of people to interact with.

From where I live, Denver International Airport is a 4 1/2 hour drive from my doorstep to a place to park at or near the airport. Add two hours to the drive time to arrive at the airport with ample time to spare prior to departure, and I’m already 6 1/2 hours into my journey. Double that same amount of time for the return trip home (which is the same drive time plus getting off the plane and retrieving luggage and getting to the car), and I’m up to 13 hours that could have been spent driving.

Even if I take a flight from Amarillo, Texas, it’s about a 3 1/2 hour drive from my house to the airport. Add the extra time prior to departure, double the total, and I’ve spent at least nine hours just to get to and from this airport.

For perspective: I can drive from my house to Phoenix, Arizona in one long day. Granted, it’s a really long day of 16-ish hours, but it’s doable, and I’m in control of when I stop, where I stop, if I want to spend the night along the way, etc.

I’ll take driving over every other mode of transportation.

Until next time
