As I contemplated a response to today’s #Bloganuary prompt – a fear I’ve conquered – my dislikes, aversions, anxieties, and avoidances came readily to mind.
This is my short list:
- Snakes
- Arachnids
- Insects – crawling and flying – bugs in general
- Social gatherings
- Airline travel
- Heights
- Summer heat
- Checking in and out of hotels/motels
- Waiting in lines
- Everything related to medical and health issues and procedures
- Dealing with employees in financial institutions
- Shopping in person
I didn’t include foods on this list, because the list would become unwieldy.

I’m claustrophobic in certain situations, but it’s never reached conquer level. I’ve always been able to manage it.
When I was a kid, I was afraid of the dark, but only inside (as in the house). A nightlight mostly alleviated that anxiety. It was probably related to my claustrophobia, since I had no trouble being outside in the dark. Darkness never reached the level of a fear to conquer.
I’m certainly not fearless. On any given day, there are situations that temporarily scare the bejeebers out of me, but I’ve never experienced a fear so crippling that it had to be conquered.
Until next time,
