I encountered this little lizardy fellow while walking down the trail into the crater at the Capulin Volcano National Monument in northeastern New Mexico in September 2020. Mt. Capulin is an extinct cinder cone volcano. It is located 33 miles east of Raton, New Mexico and 57 miles west of Clayton, New Mexico in the Raton-Clayton volcanic field.
