Today’s Two for Tuesday songs are Halloween-themed novelty songs that are silly and fun and earworm-worthy.
Haunted House by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (not the other Gene Simmons) 😉
and
(It’s a ) Monster’s Holiday by Buck Owens
Jumpin’ Gene Simmons’ first and only Top 40 Hit was Haunted House, which was a cover of Johnny Fuller’s 1958 release. Robert L. Geddins, a song writer and producer, wrote the song. Ray Stevens covered the song and had success with it.
Buck Owens wrote Monster’s Holiday and recorded it on October 30, 1973. The song is a mash-up of sorts of The Race is On (George Jones) and Monster Mash. For marketing reasons unknown, the song was released in the summer of 1974. The song clawed its way to, and peaked at, No. 6 in mid-September.
Until we meet again,
These are great! I checked out Ray Stevens’s “Haunted House” and liked this one better, and Buck is just the best!
I liked this one better, too. 😉
