This week’s Two for Tuesday songs that share a similar theme are melancholy power ballads.
Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen
and
My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion
My Heart Will Go on was originally composed by James Horner with Will Jennings supplying the lyrics. The song was written as the theme song for the 1997 film Titanic. Ms. Dion released the song as a single in November 1997. It is often considered her signature song. The song was the best-selling single of 1998.
Who Wants to Live Forever is a power ballad by the rock band Queen. The song was written by band member Brian May as a track in the 1986 film Highlander. The song was incorporated into the Highlander movie to show how Connor MacLeod’s wife Heather ages, and ultimately dies, while he remains the same age, because he is immortal.
The songs share the theme of living your life long after the person you love has died. They also share the distinction of being songs so associated with specific movies that I can’t hear the songs without thinking of the movies.
Until we meet again,
